Brockenchack Wines Development

Rarcoola were approached by Bartsch Builders to undertake the design and construction of multiple structures, as part of a major winery expansion in the Barossa Valley.

The structures consisted of a new winery, barrel store and winery storage. All were to be attached with angled verandas and canopies, with all external finishes in Woodland Grey to ensure blending in with surroundings, along with having high quality curb appeal.

Architecturally the main structures themselves were straight forward with more detailed work required on the canopies and verandas.  The overall appearance of the winery needed to meet the owner’s approval, along with the aesthetics being pleasing to patrons while visiting the winery. A small stand-out feature is the chaffering of the rafters to ensure a clean finish on all edges.

As the buildings were to be utilised for winery production, all three structures had to be insulated with building blanket and then lined to protect the insulation, along with achieving the “R” rating required. And as the buildings were to be heavily utilised, Rarcoola designed and fabricated our own heavy duty sliding door system to ensure longevity with the doors. A unique feature of the sliding doors is the bottom roller system that can hold up to 20t each making large, heavy doors readily workable.

There were a lot of challenges thrown up with this project; from limited site access, split levels and working in and around other trades. All while working closely with the principal builder, and this was managed smoothly and efficiently to make sure the project was completed on time.
