This project provided a few challenges for our design and engineering team. This was on account of the scope being to blend in with aspects of the existing structure, while at the same time, the structure needed to be functionable in covering the raceway and also protecting the pens from prevailing winds from the west. Being a “working” feedlot, there was the requirement for as little disruption as possible to the cattle throughout the build.
In this instance we used a RHS rafter that was curved into shape before being hot-dipped galvanised. To tie in with the existing structure, our engineering and fabrication team had to design a bracket that would sit under the existing gutter and mount to columns. It had to be structurally sound and also be finished in a way to compliment the overall building.
High flow gutters were utilised on the outside edge, with rainheads to prevent the need for downpipes on every column.
